Loewenstein's Information Gap Theory (1994)

Core Thesis: Curiosity arises when there's a gap between what we know and what we want to know.

Five Key Principles:

  1. Gap Detection - We continuously compare current knowledge to reference points
  2. Cognitive Drive - Perceived gaps create psychological tension
  3. Exploratory Behavior - Tension motivates information-seeking actions
  4. Optimal Gap Size - Moderate gaps maximize curiosity (too small = boredom, too large = overwhelm)
  5. Context Dependence - Gaps only create curiosity if we recognize the domain

Bluma Zeigarnik, Soviet psychologist

Discovery: People remember interrupted tasks better than completed ones.

Conclusion: -11 to -16 gap is reliable predictor of 1,700-1,900 view range for this channel.
